Throughout these years, and in order to develop a culture of Metrology in the country, we have organized conferences to disseminate this science and make Cuban accomplishments known. The first ones took place in the 1980s with the participation of Cuban specialists. In 1987, within the framework of the VII Forum of Spare and Replacement Parts where high-impact works on Metrology were presented, Commander Pedro Miret proposed the organization of an international conference on Metrology. His idea came to fruition in 1990 with the I International Symposium on Metrology, which we have held every three years since.
Today we are holding its eleventh edition, originally scheduled for last year but prevented by the pandemic. This one is a little bit smaller and designed in a different format—a virtual modality—in keeping with the present circumstances. However, we hope it will be as fruitful as in previous years and a space to disseminate and socialize the results of Cuban Metrology and facilitate exchange among international experts to identify and establish relations with a view to future cooperation. Metrology 2021 will feature personalities who will give important lectures on very current topics as representatives of international and regional organizations from America, Europe and Asia.
Finally, I thank the keynote speakers for their contribution with presentations of a high scientific-technical level, my Cuban and foreign colleagues and speakers whose papers make this event better, the sponsors—which, by the way, include a cooperative—for their support to this conference, and DESOFT, for having offered its help and a 100% Cuban platform to hold Metrology 2021.
